Security fencing plays an important role in protecting your property. It provides physical security while maintaining visibility. This visibility is vital for public property such as schools, community centres or government sites, and commercial properties that border public property. There are several options for security fencing, including Garrison and Palisade fencing. It can be hard to know which one is better for your property so we’ve broken down the differences.
Garrison Fencing
Garrison fencing is prefabricated panels of tubular pickets, usually steel or aluminium. The pickets are welded to the rails by the supplier and then the complete panels are attached to the fencing posts onsite.
Resistant:
Garrison fencing is usually made from galvanised steel, which can then be painted or powder-coated.
Galvanised steel is rust-resistant and durable. With very little maintenance, fencing made of galvanised steel will last several decades.
Installation:
Due to the prefabrication involved with garrison fencing, it is much quicker and easier to install than fencing types where pickets need attaching onsite. This decreases labour costs involved with installation.
Customisation:
At Metric Fencing, we fabricate all our garrison fencing panels in-house so we can customise the colour and spear top of your fence. We have flat and spiked options that add even more security to your fence.
Palisade Fencing
Unlike garrison, palisade fencing comes as individual pickets. With palisade fencing, the pickets must be bolted to the cross beam on-site.
Appearance
Like garrison fencing, palisade comes in a range of colours. Because they are delivered already painted, they are assembled on-site with unpainted galvanised bolts, which will likely stand out against the fencing colour you have chosen.
Installation
The biggest drawback of palisade fencing is its installation. Unlike garrison fencing which comes in prefabricated panels, palisade comes in loose pickets which must be bolted to rails onsite. This increases the installation time and labour cost.
Resistant
Palisade fences are usually also made from galvanised steel to ensure durability. It’s vital they are installed using galvanised steel bolts too, otherwise, these will rust and risk compromising the security of the fence.
Installation
Both garrison and palisade fencing require metal posts cemented into the ground. It’s important these posts are galvanised steel to prevent rusting underground. It’s possible to install garrison and palisade fencing yourself, but it can be complex, especially with palisade. You may need to use a dancing contractor to install your security fence, so this is a cost you need to take into account when deciding between garrison and palisade.
Gates
Once you have chosen your fencing, you need to consider gates. Depending on your need, you may want a swinging or an automatic gate. We offer several gate options, as well as keypads, remotes and keys to cover all levels of security your gate may need.
Not only does security fencing protect your property, but it also provides a sleek, modern finish to your property.
