In Western Australia, it is a requirement that all private swimming pools, spa pools and portable pools that contain water that is more than 300 mm (30 cm) deep must have a compliant barrier that restricts access by young children to the pool and its immediate surrounds.
Glass pool fencing and metal pool fencing are two popular types of pool fencing available to homeowners today and some further information on both can be found below:
Glass Pool Fencing
Glass pool fencing typically comes in frameless and semi-frameless options and both have the advantage of providing a clear view of the pool area, making it easy to monitor children and pets. Glass pool fencing is difficult for young children and pets to climb over and is very easy to clean – usually just requiring soap and a quick hose down.
Metal Pool Fencing
Metal pool fencing is commonly made from either aluminium or steel. Steel is one of the toughest and most durable building materials on the market, making it an excellent choice if you are looking for a long-lasting fence. High-quality steel fences are very sturdy and have high wind resistance, they also typically come in a variety of styles, so there is bound to be an option available that blends with your pool and backyard area.
Aluminium pool fences have the benefit of being durable, lightweight and resistant to rust and corrosion. Aluminium pool fences provide a much more obvious and easy to spot barrier to the pool area, preventing people from accidentally walking into them. Aluminium pool fences are also advantageous in that they are very easy to install and maintain, and have no risk of shattering in high temperatures as some glass pool fences have done in the past.
