If you’ve had a wood fence at your house for several years there’s a good chance it’s looking pretty decrepit by now. Instead of attempting to repaint or stain your fence every three years, try making the switch to slat fencing. Aluminium slat fences are growing in popularity as more people in Perth are replacing their wooden fences with this alternative. We’ve outlined some reasons should you consider switching to slat fencing below.
Durability:
Wooden fences are more susceptible to the weather. Even if the wood is treated there is a high chance of chipping and dents. This is especially the case with wooden gates. Not only can Perth’s climate cycle cause wooden fences to warp but the strong winds are capable of knocking these fences over. Termites also pose a threat to damaging wooden fence panels.
Contrarily, aluminium slat fencing is resistant to these elements. Slat panels are durable and weather resistant. The toughness of aluminium metal means slat fences are less susceptible to breaking, chipping or scratching.
Simple Maintenance:
To maintain a wooden fence, they need to be repainted every 3-4 years. Oil treatments should be applied yearly as well. This becomes a continual maintenance job that cost time and money.
The only instance slat fences require maintenance is for a rare repair job. Otherwise, slat metal fencing requires no continual maintenance. The aluminium panels only require a hose down for cleaning purposes.
Longevity:
A well-built and treated wooden fence has a lifespan of around 15-20 years. This is assuming the fence has also been maintained during its lifetime. This is because wood naturally breaks down over time. On the other hand, slat fencing is capable of lasting for decades. Aluminium is a sturdy material that won’t rust or break down over time. Metwood Slat Fencing:
Here at Metric Fencing, our slat fencing is produced using Metwood aluminium. This makes our slat panel fences durable and last beyond the lifespan of a wooden fence. Our Metwood slat panels include wood-like designs. This means you can keep the look of real wood without its drawbacks. These slat designs are perfect if you’re still attached to the look and feel of a wooden slat fence. Furthermore, the wood-like colour options go well with older architecture.
Metric Fencing also offers DIY kits for our slat fences and gates. This is ideal for those looking to switch to slat fencing outside the Perth metro area. If you have any further questions, get in touch with our team today.
